Hi there, my name is Martin. I'm passionate freeride skier, ice-climber and mountaineer from Slovakia, currently living in Iceland. I used be part of the ski national team of Slovakia and have more than 14 years of experience in the ski fields. Skiing means completely everything to me. After my racing carrier I moved to Canada where I got more into the ski guiding. I'm inspired, young and motivated free spirit that love to explore world, learning the new skills and keep following my dreams. At the moment I'm part of the guiding industry in Iceland, mostly glacier related. Being out in the feild with poeple is what truly fullfils my soul. I'm seeking for a job where I can get more experience in what I love and broaden my horizons in ski-guiding.
I've started my work carrier in Iceland summer 2022. Artic Adventures hired me as a very rookie in this bussines. Glacier guiding has provided me with many skills like communication and managing a big groups of people, probelm solving and many hard skills that a solid guide should have. I've successfully done couple courses with an amazing feedback from the instructors and I'm in the process of creating the best version of myself. We've been managing all kinds of tours from easy walks on the ice to a advanced tours and ice climbing. Currently, I'm sign off for 7 hour trip we call Glacier Xtreme, where we take people to higher elevations of the glacier, teaching them advanced crampons movements, ice climbing in complex terrain and delivering a little mountaineering experience! I have an excellent rope skills, great risk management and ability to deliver unforgettable experience for people from all around the world.
Terrain Park Ranger was one of the first job positions I applied for after moving to BC. I spend two winter seasons (2021-2022, 2022-2023) working as a handshaper in one of the biggest terrain parks in North America. It was one of the best experiences of my life. Managed terrain parks to ensure the safety and enjoyment of skiers and snowboarders within the park. Inspected and maintained park features, such as jumps, rails, and halfpipes, to ensure they met safety standards. I was exceling in many ways and was one of the best shapers in the team. I'm very motivated, passioned and grateful doing jobs which I truly enjoy. After two seasons working there, my park skills got better than ever, my bag of tricks expanded and back-country became one big playground. In two seasons there had more than 240 days on skis, which I valued the most.
After fourteen years of competing in slalom and giant slalom I got to the point where following the courses that someone else builed became boring. Without any hesitation I applied for Ski instructor course, level one. I had been teaching skiing for about two ski seasons (2018-2019, 2019-2020). I'm very friendly and easy going person which made many costumers happy. After my manager seen my technique and previous ski accomplishments, he made me teach intermediate to advanced clients although my certification was only level one. That's one of the reasons why I've never upgraded my license to level two or higher. Ski instructing was always very natural and fulfilling job for me! See people happy after making their first turns makes me as satisfied as shredding with a very experienced people behind your back and spraying some snow around!
