A medical graduate with a passion to give best patient care possible. I am GMC registered and have extensive experience in patient dealing and patient management. I am organized, dependable and make sure I have my priorities straight. I am quite flexible and highly adaptable to the work environment and my polite and friendly nature puts everyone at ease.
My duties include:-
- Taking histories from patient, examining and sending relevant tests when necessary.
- Managing acute emergencies which include ACS, Stroke, Acute exacerbations Of Asthma/COPD, DKA, poisoning, polytrauma etc.
- Our hospital in located near the highway so Trauma is one of the most common cases. Managements such as application of back slab, closed reductions with Xray and POP are done in the department.
- Admission of patients and initial management plan after discussion with the relevant consultant. After that taking to the doctor looking after the ward and handing over the patient.
- Making swift and accurate decisions regarding the further action needed.
Communication Role:-
- Emergency department is happening department where multiple patient come with severe concerns regarding their health. It is my duty to not only manage the patient but to explain and address their concerns with empathy and clear words.
- The counseling also extends to family member who are concerned regarding their patient's health.
- During my 4 weeks. I did 4 rotations which included Acute assessment unit, Respiratory Unit, Gastroenterology Unit and lastly, Elderly Care Unit. My duties included:-
-Shadowing healthcare professionals to observe and learn clinical procedures.
-Gaining insights into patient interactions and communication such as palliative care counseling.
-Learning and following protocols for hygiene and infection control.
-Attending ward rounds with multiple consultants to understand both patient cases and treatment plans and also to understand how every consultant approaches different cases.
-Contributing to discussions when appropriate under supervision and timely attending MDT meetings.
-Learning the proper use of electronic health record system followed in Bedford Hospital including how noting, requests, prescriptions, discharges and e-referrals
are made.
-Observed and learned the process of cannulation, ultrasound guided cannulation, blood sampling, ultrasound guided ascitic tap and how to send off samples to pathology.
-Understanding the roles of different healthcare professionals.
-Respecting diversity and cultural considerations in patient care.
-Observing colleagues during important discussions with patients and relatives including discussions about ceiling of care and breaking bad news.
-Demonstrating professionalism in appearance, communication and behavior.
-Adhering to the policies and standards set by the NHS trust.
Communication Role:-
- I have done my Plab Examinations. There is a separate portion of marking for IPS (Inter-personal skills) and I was able to apply these during my rotation.
- I observed how the healthcare system worked in the UK and understood how everything is patient centered as it should be.
- I learned how to deal with angry patients, Breaking bad news, Medical errors and multiple other communication challenges and I am confident that I can handle any situation.
